Explanation: Kumtepe's layer Ia is its earliest, and is contemporary with Besik-Sivritepe. Layer Ib dates earlier than Troy I, and is attributed to the first part of the EBA. While the earlier layers of Kumtepe Ib are not clear, they could be placed in Late Chalcolithic-EBA transition, or just late Chalcolithic. There is a hiatus between layers Ia and Ib, and 14C dates confirm this.
