Location: It can be reached either from the Kislacik Village following the road deviating at 15th km of the Vize-Kiyiköy motorway or from the Vize-Kömürköy-Kizilagac road. The road is smooth until Kizilagac. A half an hour walking is required to go to the cave from the village. In dry seasons; it can also be reached by tractor.
Structural Properties and formation : The vicinity of the cave consists of gneisses and schists belonging to the Istranca Massif; and Eocene argillaceous and arenaceous limestones and Pliocene clay; sand and pebble deposits. The cave was formed within the Eocene argillaceous and arenaceous limestones on the gneisses; which are the karstic floor level for limestones. There are 0.5 m-1 m deep lakes in the side gallery and the final zone of the main gallery; and some dripstone deposits at several places. These wall and drapery dripstones; and stalactites; stalagmites; columns and dripstone pools maintain their vivid positions.
Research History: It was explored and mapped by MTA.
Findings: No archaeological relics have been found on the cave floor of Kızılağaç Cave. The most characteristic forms of life are molluscs and snails. Other than these forms which are intense in the entrance zone; bats were seen at some other places [Nazik et al. 1998a:64-67]. Although there are no large bat colonies in Kızılağaç Cave, four species were encountered in the surveys and the invertebrate species diversity is high. Many samples were collected belonging to Arachnida, Diplopoda, Chilopoda, Insecta, Entognatha and Gastropoda Classes [BUMAD 2010].
