+5.5 m
Length:
42 m
Region:
Marmara
Province:

Location: It is located in the upper section of Magara Dere; near Dörtyol Köyü; which is 7 km mortheast of Kefken at the coast Black Sea; in the north of Kocaeli and Adapazari. The cave which is 1.5 km from the sea is reached by the Kocaeli-Kandira; Adapazari-Kaynarca-Kandira routes or the Kocaeli-Karasu-Kefken coastal highway. The cave is accessible by any kind of vehicle from Kefken.
Structural Properties and formation : Magara Pinari Magarasi developed on a lightly wavy surface which starts from the sea level up to an altitude of 100 m. The immediate environment consists of accumulation formations from Pliocene and Quaternary. The most clear formations are the paleo-valleys which went through an alluvial clogging by the erosion surface. The paleo-valleys which generally expand in east to west direction were cracked by the short Quaternary streams in north-south direction. The alluvial clogging was formed by the elevation of the sea level following the last ice age. The short Magara Stream where the cave expands in the upper section is one of the streams which went through the alluvial clogging. The cave is a northwest to southeast direction developed; spring type fossil cave. It bears two separate entrances. It has a wavy; grill structure depending on the crack system; and the direction and dip of the limestones. The branches generally developed in northeast-southwest direction (the layer direction). The last section is at +5.5 m from the entrance. The cave went through alluvial clogging just as the rivers on the surface. Its basin is covered with a thick layer of sand and pebbles; therefore the ceiling height is extremely low (0.5-1 m). It did not go through an alluvial discharge process due to its location near the sea level.
Research History: It was researched by MTA and published in 2002.
Findings: No living colonies were observed inside the cave.
