Location:
Structural Properties and formation : It is one of an island comprising otoliths of Sile [Baykal-Önalan 1979]. Cave is formed by abrasion of a crack in aged limestones in Upper Cretaceous by destructive waves. Development of cave like in sea cliff has originated from the enlargement of alcove under sea rocks, and has continiued through the depression of base. Cave is still in relation with sea. The block base of the cave has a partially sandy base and is open to waves and to the north wind main current in Black Sea and Sile. The mouth of cave having 20 m of ceiling narrows towards deep. Hydrology: Cave in relation with sea is active and watery.
Research History: Cave known from early ages and recorded by Kasar in 1987 with the name of Kale Cave. Kasar had suggested to visit island where Sile Castle lies by boat, and had also added a note that: "According to rumour, it was possible to enter and exit to castle along a hidden passage". This passage was surveyed both from surface and cave, but not to be found. It was firstly mapped by Baykal-Önalan and their team.
Findings: Seagulls can be partially seen over the blocks. For tourists and visitors, it is an interesting place which can be reached by boat as well as swimming, except rough periods. It is lightened at nights by the authorized personnel. It is also suggested that the bottom of the sea should be lightened as well during the tourism seasons in the summers.
