Research History: It was discovered during the survey performed by Harmansah-Johnson in 2012. During the studies, the cultural layers containing archaeological deposit were found in the cave.
Findings: Aktepe Cave is a fossil phreatic natural cave with stalactites and stalagmites and it has a narrow corridor-like entrance in tube shape. The high-ceiled first gallery consisting of these corridors is an area which contains collapses from place to place and expands to the right and left. The floor of the Middle Gallery has been damaged due to being dug by Sof Madencilik. Two ends of the Middle Gallery open to the various deep galleries which are separated from the main gallery by platen walls. On the ceiling of these galleries, there are lots of bats and bat guano. Based on the preliminary results, potsherds are dated to Neolithic, Hellenistic period and Middle Age. In addition to those, there might a few potsherds which can be dated Chalcolithic and MBA (Assyrian Trade Colonial Period).
