Location: The cave site is northwest of the city of Elazig; 5 km west of the town of Agin; close to the village of Yenipayam which used to be called Hastek; in the neighborhood of Gedikler along the Arapkir Stream.
Structural Properties and formation : K. Kökten doesn't clarify whether this hole is a cave or cave shelter. The name is probably a local one.
Research History: It was first found K. Kökten who visited the area in order to find out the prehistoric settlements which would have been flooded under the waters of the Keban Dam lake in 1969. Kökten conducted a small excavation in this cave or rock shelter within the same year because of the interesting features of the settlement. The excavation initiated in 1969 was continued in 1970 and 1971. At the end of these three seasonal excavations; only 350 cm depth was reached by the trench with a dimension of 3x4.5 opened in the sunlit area; near the mouth of the shelter or; in Kökten's words; the den. Later on; another trench was opened on the northwestern edge of the cave. It was not possible to continue the excavation and reach to cultural findings in a wider area due to the fractures on the ceiling and big stone blocks that might have fallen at any time. It is not described in detailed if the bedrock was reached.
Findings: Kökten reports that the tools which had typical Aurignacien features and dating from the Upper Palaeolithic Era found after 200 cm were mainly points and scrapers. And; next he indicates the presence of stone tools dating probably from the Middle Palaeolithic Era and considers that they belong to the Levalloisian-Mousterian culture. Also found in the vicinity is an Acheulean bifacial handaxe. Kökten didn't provide any further information although he indicated the presence of other tools in the neighbourhood; confirming the findings in the cave.
