| Research and Excavation: In 1907, Bell visited the structure [Rott:1908]. Restle investigated it in 1970s and recently B. Çelebioglu studied the structure within the scope of her Ph.D. in 2007 [Çelebioglu 2008]. |
| Description: Architectural Features: The church consists of a single naved naos and an additional room adjacent to its north. On the west of the church, there is a narthex covering the two rooms. The naos separated from the north room by the double arched arcade with a pillar. The narthex provides a passage to the naos and the north room through separate entrances. To the southwest of the narthex, there is also another room which is entered through the south of the narthex. At the east edge of the naos, there is an apse with a width of the nave. The apse is in the form of horseshoe on the inside and pentagon on the outside. There is a window at the center of the apse. The square niche is found on the north of the apse. There is a window on the straight east wall of the structure on the north. Bell described the structure like this when she visited in 1907. Then, the structure has collapsed. Today, except some part of the north wall, the stones belonging to the structure scattered around [Çelebioglu 2008:46-49] Decorative Features: According to Bell's description, the interior of the structure is completely plastered and this shows that the walls were probably covered with frescoes [Ramsay-Bell 1909:389-390]. The apse of the half-dome is encircled by a profiled fillet at the level of the springing. |
