Topyolu Mezarlığı
Type:
Cemetery
Altitude:
m
Region:
Eastern Anatolia
Province:
Ardahan
District:
Çildir
Village:
Kakaç
Investigation Method:
Survey
Period:
Early Iron Age

It is situated 5 km northeast of the Akçakale Village, 2 km north of the Kakaç Village on the road to the Akçakale Village's upland in the Çildir District of Ardahan. Although no ceramic data were available in the cemetery with an altitude of 2098 m, some sherds were collected from the environs of the cemetery. It was observed that two graves exposed during a road construction were built with rough stones in an oval shape. In addition to these two graves that measure 3x2.6 m and 6.3x3.6 m, presence of relief and courses of stones presumably belonging to another grave-like structure suggests possible existence of more graves around these two graves. Furthermore, discovery of grave structures in better shape further above these graves suggests that this area was a cemetery, and it may have been a building complex along with the underlying 2 m wide and 500 m long wall remains in east-west direction. Although the people who caused exposure of the graves mentioned that that there were many sherds in the graves, no ceramic data were obtained from the graves.
