It is situated at so called Seyhkarpuz Mevkii, 500 m east of the Üzümlü District, 30 km away from Erzincan. The fortress is accessible through a road constructed by carving the rocks and passing by the rock grave below the fortress after passing through the vineyards. There is a cistern and a votive area on the road. The fortress is at a dominant location to the north of Altintepe on the skirts of mountains, with a strong defense. The stones which fell apart following the collapse of fortifications are being used to define the border of the vineyards at present day. The rock grave on the road to the fortress can be accessed through a gate that measures 58 cm in width and 1.28 m in height. The inner part of the rock grave was partially leveled to have an inner space and two rock niches were installed. The rock grave has been destroyed by many illicit diggings, leaving a huge deposit of soil. Many Middle Age sherds were found among this deposit. |
