It lies on the eastern part of the Doganli Valley, southeast of the Çukurca Village. It was discovered by G. Perrot et al. [Perrot et al. 1872:145]. Afterwards, it was surveyed by C.H.E. Haspels, and by G. de Francovich. It rests on the southeastern part of a rocky platform extending in the north-south direction. The entrance is from the east. Accessed through the steps carved into the bedrock, the monumental entrance was erected with stone blocks. To the west of the entrance is a rectangular chamber carved into the rock, and to the northwest of this chamber lies a round silo. A square chamber carved into the bedrock in the south direction and traces of a settlement are observed from the surface across the entrance. Haspels describes it as a fortress, but Francovich reports it as a sanctuary. |
