It lies 2.5-3 km south of the present Van-Erçek motorway, approximately 28 km east of Van. It is 1850 m high above the sea lavel, and the closest settlement to the reservoir is the Aktas Village, which lies 1.5 km to the south. It measures ca. 140 m in lenght, and 126 m in width. The reservoir wall has a shape of a half-moon, enclosing the northern section. The water is supplied from joining strong spring waters, which originate from south and flow to the north. A thick layer of soil conveyed by the spring waters and rain, snow and flood waters both silted up the reservoir and obscured the wall. The reservoir wall extend in the east-west direction. The floodgate lies on the northeastern section. It already lost its originality as it underwent several repairworks. The wall was erected with large limestones, which were derived from the limestone deposits in the neigbourhood. The reservoir meets the agricultural requirements of the fertile lands and vegetable gardens extending until the Lake Erçek. As it bears similar features in plan and design with the Upper Anzaf Dam, which is located 16 km to the west, and was built during the reign of the King Menua (810-786 BC), it is believed to have been erected during the same period.
