It is situated in Alikelle Village of Çaldiran Plain. It lies over a rocky hill that arises 1.5 km north of the village. Ancient remains were noticed during a survey, and based on the sherds collected from the surface, it was concluded that the ruins belonged an Iron Age settlement. It was surveyed by A. Özfirat et al. in 2007. The fortress has rectangular plan measuring 225x45 m. Its walls are 3 m thick, built of small and medium size flagstones. there are rectangular and square planned structures built adjacent to the fortifications that measure 6x5, 3.50x5, 1.50x5 m. Due to the presence of stones stacked up all over inside the fortress the remains that belong to other structures could not be identified. The fortress named Ziyaret Kalesi by A. Özfirat was coded M73/9 [Özfirat 2009:349]. |
