It rests on a 936 m high hill so called Atatepe, south of Armenia, where also Ulkütepe Fortress and the Kasimintigi and Orgulutepe settlements are located, 5 km east of Igdir. Built using cyclopic technique, the fortification walls are 2 m thick. There is a rectangular building of 8x14 m in the north-south direction, built with stones of 1.2-1.3 m on the northern skirts of the hill housing the fortress. Also found are remains of many structures in oval and rectangular plan and Early Iron Age graves at the center. Overall, Atatepe is a large and significant center with its fortress bearing the characteristics of the Iron Age and its settlement in an oval and rectangular plan to the north of the fortress, and a necropolis area dating to the Early Iron Age.
