It is 80 m high above the plain level, 3 km southwest of Basköy, 17 km northwest of the Çayirli District in Erzincan, lying in a position overlooking the plain. It also commands the road in the east-west direction, passing through the northern section. With a dimension of 28x52 m, the northern and southern walls of the fortress, which were erected using cutstones, are still extant. To the west is a cistern of 3.25x2.9 m, which was carved into the rocks. One of the most significant features of the fortress is the cockleshells found among the stones of the fortress. Based on the sherds, it seems that the fortress inhabited during the Iron Age was, later on, intensely occupied during the Middle Age. |
