It lies 1 km north of the Kurnuc Village, 11 km northeast of the Pasinler District in Erzurum. It rests on a small andesite hill. The southern section has a steeper oval plan. Its overall plan is uncertain as the walls made of andesite stones had been already demolished. Residential remains are observed on the eastern skirts of the fortress. The ceramics collected from this section bear characteristics of the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Middle Age. One of the most significant features of the Cin Fortress is that thousands of raw obsidian were brought up to the fortress from the Büyükdere Valley and worked here. The fresh water sources in the neighborhood also contribute to the significance of the fortress. |
