It is situated at 2020 m altitude, 500 m north of Basbudak Village which is 60 km southeast of Tercan District in Erzincan. It was researched during the survey performed by A. Ceylan et al. in 2007. The fortress lies in north-south direction and is located east of Tuzla Brook. All of the fortress walls were demolished. The stones forming the walls are generally larger at the bottom and smaller at the top. There is no doubt that the fortress belongs to the early period. The region is the crossing of both the natural roads and the waterways. The natural road that passes on the east side of the fortress connects Tercan to Çat District of Erzurum. The fortress controls this road. It was surveyed by A. Bingöl et al. as well in 2008. The fortress walls were expanded by cyclopean technique to a thickness of 2 m by roughly chipping the surfaces. The fortress was built on two scales. At first scale the stones were cut, and their centers were beveled for appropriately fitting on the bedrock up to three meters of height without having to destroy the bedrock itself. The main idea may have been to display the resistance level of the fortress .It is one of the highest fortresses in the region. Early Iron Age, and Medieval Age sherds were collected during survey [Bingöl et al. 2010:383]. |
