Location: This site is approximately 100 km Southeast of Ankara in Karakeçili Locality of Karakeçili Suburb of Kırıkkale City, on the left side of the highway from Ankara to Kaman before crossing Kızılırmak River [Matsumura 2011.411].
Geography and Environment:
History:
Research and Excavation: The excavations are initiated in 2009 by Japan-Anatolian Archaeology Institute and are led by K. Matsumura [Matsumura 2011:411].
Stratigraphy: Three culture layers are detected as a result of 2009 excavations. These are; Layer I: Ottoman Period, Layer II: Iron Age, Layer III: Late Bronze Age [Matsumura 2011:412].
Small Finds: Architecture: Western part of a room is identified from the Iron Age Layer opened in 2009 in the Southwest corner of the trench in the South. The West and North walls of this room are made in the cellar-form using a single row of stones since it is built by flattening the Eastern slope. The East side of the room is cut by the room in the first level. A fireplace in the shape of a horseshoe filled with ashes is unearthed in the Northwest corner [Matsumura 2011.412]. In 2010, 25 pits belonging to Level II dated to Late IA were discovered under Level I structures in Trench N2W1 [Matsumura 2012:423]. After removing the Hellenistic architecture in 2011, W75 in the north-south direction which is thought to be the first building level of IA was discovered on the northeast corner of the trench. The wall was removed anf then the walls of W84 and W87, which probably form a room, belonging to the building level 2 of IA were discovered. A round section surrounded by stones and cut by the wall W84 was found on the north of these walls. It is seen that W84 is a foundation which was built by opening a channel. It is also discovered that the wall W87 was built by cutting the fire layer belonging to 2nd millennium BC (Plate: 9). This situation shows that the existence of a large structure built as semi basement consisting of these walls. In Trench N0E1, the wall W70 and floor which are thought to belong to IA were exposed under Room R19. The fact that the wall W70 faces to the north shows that this wall was the south wall of a room. On the south of the wall W70, the wall W71 was found. It is thought that W71 is comtemporary with W70. W71 that forms the north wall of the room assigned as R24 was used in two phases. A krater shaped painted vessel belonging to Late IA was found on the floor of R24 [Matsumura 2013:401-402]. Pottery: The grey and painted pieces of pottery found in the room excavated in 2009 show that this architecture belongs to Late Iron Age [Matsumura 2011:412]. A large number of grey and bichrome potsherds inside the pits which were exposed during the 2010 studies [Matsumura 2012:423].
