It is located on the west side of Erzurum-Pasinler motorway within the boundaries of Merkez District of Erzurum Province. It was discovered during the survey performed by Günasdi and his team in 2010. It is situated on a high hill. It is in a dominant position over the road which interconnects Caucasus and Erzurum. The fortification walls belonging to the castle have only been detected on the foundation level in patches. Although Eskisehirtepe seems more like a hill, it is noteworthy that the steps have been built on Eskisehirtepe and the rocks on its skirts. There are small occupation areas which were carved into the rock on the section facing to Erzurum. The surface yielded a great number of potsherds dating to Late Chalcolithic and EBA. A few of them are dated to Early and Middle IA [Günasdi et al. 2012:56].
