The area (also named as Area no.5), which was discovered during the survey conducted by M. Kartal and his team in 2013, is located in the east of Area no.4 (see Ayiyatagi Mevkii Güneyi 1), in Arifaga Village in Kaynarca District of Sakarya Province. The area is similar with the Area no.4 in terms of geological features. Red colored sand dunes belonging to Pleistocene Period yielded a great number of Palaeolithic chipped stone finds. These finds are exposed due to erosion. This area contains more finds than the Area no.4. The dispersal of the finds indicates the existence of an occupation in this area. Among the finds, there are Levallois cores and flakes, retouched flakes, Clactonian flakes, a Levallois point, a chopper, two stone hammers and a large number of flakes [Kartal et al. 2015:13]. |
