The fortress is located at a height of 3158 m, 1 km southeast of Avciçayir Village of Otlukbeli District in Erzincan Province. It overlooks the road connecting Otlukbeli and Bayburt. Avciçayir settlement locates 1 km northwest and Güzelgül settlement to its southwest. Although no pottery sherds were found in the fortress, its construction technique and landscape exhibit Iron Age characteristics. The surrounding area is very suitable for agricultural and stock breeding activities. There is a cellular transmitter in the center of the fortress. During the construction of the fortress, especially on the south and west city walls, bedrock was used. It is observed that much smaller stones were used on the upper section of the fortress. The thickness of the walls ranges from 90 m to 150 m. The fact that rocks on the northwest edge are polished suggests that this area could be a sanctuary [Ceylan et al. 2016:448-9]. |
