Ç. Çilingiroglu and her team conducted a survey in the pine grove, at the side of the motorway beneath the limestone cliffs, in Tas Ocaklari Mevkii, in the south of Mordogan Village, in the Karaburun Peninsula of Izmir Province in 2015. Prehistoric finds were found in this area. Among the assemblage, consisting of 116 pieces in total, there are unretouched flakes, retouched tools, and cores. These tools were produced from brown and black flints. The technology of these tools bears a resemblance to neither Palaeolithic nor Neolithic industries. Therefore, it is assumed that these tools might have belonged to hunter-gatherers existed in the 9th and 8th millennium BC in the region. It is stated that the studies will continue to get more clear results [Çilingiroglu et al. 2017:163]. |
