Ç. Çilingiroglu and her team conducted a survey in the macquis groves, in the south slope of the hill in the Kömür Cape, in the northern tip of the Karaburun Peninsula of Izmir Province in 2015. Some finds were determined in this area. 208 potsherds, 47 stone tools, and 4 ground stone artifacts were found. The potsherds are handmade, chaff and sand tempered, moderately fired, and red slipped and burnished. These potsherds are dated to the end of the 7th millennium BC - the beginning of the 6th millennium BC because of these features. Large numbers of basalt and flint flakes, 2 well preserved hammer axes, 1 ground stone and hammer stone were found. These finds show great similarity to the finds belonging to the levels dating to the end of the 7th millennium BC and the beginning of the 6th millennium BC of the Neolithic settlements of Izmir Province such as Ulucak, Yesilova, Ege Gübre, and Çukuriçi [Çilingiroglu et al. 2017:164]. |
