| Degirmendere Höyük is located in Degirmendere Quarter of Göksun district, Kahramanmaras province. The mound covers an are of approximately 3512 square-meters. There are some out-rimmed or flat-based light brown and red-orange pottery sherds recorded at the site. The light brown pottery have a better quality of paste and finely grit-tempered. They have middle wall thickness and they are generally non-coated, non-tempered and not impressed. Examples of this kind of ware are common within the region and dated to the Early Bronze Age. The out-rolled rimmed red-orange ware has a slightly crude texture. They are burnished with the same color with its paste, coated and crudely grit-tempered. Examples of this kind are found at Akbayir I-II, Bozhöyük, Kartalkaya-Körali, Karasüleymanli, Hozan, Karaelbistan and Ortaören within the region. They are dated from the Late Chalcolithic Period to the Early Bronze Age. The last assemblage found at Degirmendere is the finely burnished, cream-colored coated drabware that dates to the Middle-Late Bronze Age. Similar pottery had been found within the region, especially at Elbistan-Karahöyük, Igde-Iskartun and Yassihöyük [Dumankaya 2018: 41-42]. |
