It lies in Karahüyük Village; about 6.9 km northwest of Elbistan District; north of Kahramanmaras Province. Excavations at Karahöyük were initiated by a team led by T. Özgüç in 1947. After a long interlude, excavations started again in 2014 under the Directorate of Kahramanmaras Museum. The site has been severely damaged due to illicit digging. To the south lies a modern village. It measures 18 m in height and 350x300 m in dimensions. Although EBA levels were not reached during the excavation; the recovery of eastern ware; Ozan Höyük EBA ware and Cappadocia-like ware during the surface collection exposes the presence of an EBA settlement. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
