The mound lies southeast of Gaziantep and district of Nizip; 1.8 km south-southeast of Kelekli (Sara) village. When discovered by G. Algaze in 1989; the mound was reported to cover an area of 250x110 m with a height of 2 m. In 1992; the expedition; visiting this flat and ovoid mound again; has observed that it is completely destroyed for gardening. This site will probably be inundated since it is on the west bank of the Euphrates. From the surface typical Uruk ware forms Ğnamely bevelled rim bowls; conic vessels; grit-tempered plates etc.Ñ are collected. Iron Age material is also existent. |
