Location: Artifacts were found southwest of the city of Tunceli; in the fields by the village of Yeniköy; immediately north of the Elazig-Tunceli highway and 12 km northeast of the town of Pertek.
Geography and Environment: It is difficult to describe geographical/topographical setting of this site because the exact location is vague. The researcher in this area; K. Kökten suggests this large open-air site with nearby cave and rock-shelters was a preferred location in the Pleistocene.
History:
Research and Excavation: Yeniköy Pertek was discovered in 1969 by Kiliç Kökten during his survey where he aimed to locate prehistoric habitation sites as part of the Keban Project.
Stratigraphy:
Small Finds: The finds include an oval biface handaxe made of flint characterized by Kökten as Chelléen (Abbevillien) [Kökten 1971:15; fig.16/1]. The survey also yielded some points and end scrapers on flakes and a rounded hammer stone.
