The site takes place to south of Antakya and 4 km northeast of Sungur village which locates north of the Yayladag district. It also known as Üçagiz Mevkii. Palaeolithic tools were gathered from both sides of Ali Efendi stream near Antakya-Yayladag highway; in an area about 10.000 square meters. The site was discovered in 1998 during the survey by a team leaded by I. Yalcinkaya. The wide and flat butted bulbed and conical flakes carved on the anvil; the nibbled and notched fragments; blades and amorphous cores in the assemblage were dated to Clactonien industry by the researchers. Plenty of cores; cortex peeling flakes and cortexed flakes indicated that the area was a workshop. |
