The site is located in Sanliurfa province; Birecik district and by crow flies 4-5 km southeast of Mezraa town. The southwest slopes of the Almuso Tepe are very rich in Palaeolithic finds. The site was discovered in 2000 by a team leaded by H. Taskiran during the project of "The Palaeolithic Survey in the Carchemish Dam Reservoir Region" coordinated by METU TAĒDAM (Center for Research and Assessment of the Historic Environment). Besides being a source of raw flint; the southern and eastern slopes of the site appear to have been an actual Middle Palaeolithic workshop [Taskiran-Kartal 2001:525]. Finds including all the elements of Levallois flaking technique were encountered [Taskiran-Kartal 2001:525]. Code W49/52.
