The site lies on a natural hill located between the villages of Sarigazel and Mesepinari; 12 km southwest of the district of Ladik in the province of Samsun. The mound measures about 50x75 m and rises 25 m above the plain level. The settlement was visited in 2001 during the survey of Samsun and Amasya provinces conducted under the direction of M. Özsait. Ceramics dating to the Late Chalcolithic; EBA II; Hittite Empire; Early and Middle Iron ages were found. It is reported that the Late Chalcolithic material has similarities with the ceramics of Kayadüzü Üçtas; Aricilar Maltepesi and Akyazi. |
