The mound lies 15 km southeast of Sanliurfa; below Sultantepe village. The large mound can be reached easily turning to the village road from the Sanliurfa-Akçakale highway. It lies on Urfa plain between Kötüçag and Kömürcü streams. Excavation has been conducted on the mound in 1952 by S. Lloyd and it has been surveyed in 1947 by A. Dönmez and W. Brice; and surveyed again in 1989 by N. Yardimci. The sherds collected from the surface by A. Dönmez and W. Brice date to Halaf Period and those collected by N. Yardimci to Uruk Period; EBA; MBA-LBA; Antiquity and Islamic Period. The EBA finds consist of fine wares and burnished wares of buff biscuit. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
