Location: This site lies south of Eflatunpinar; approximately 6 km west of Sadikhaci Village; north of the town of Beysehir; west-southwest of the city of Konya. |
Geography and Environment: This site referred to as Eflatun Höyük by Solecki is also known as Kocadere Höyük. In archaeological literature; the name Beysehir Höyük C seems to predominate. The dimensions of the mound are not reported. |
History: |
Research and Excavation: The site was discovered by R. S. Solecki during a survey conducted in the region around the Beysehir-Sugla Lakes in 1963. |
Stratigraphy: In addition to Neolithic material; the surface survey yielded Early and Middle Bronze Age finds. |
Small Finds: Pottery: Mellaart is hesitant in assigning a coarse made lug fragment; possibly dating to the Neolithic [Mellaart 1954:fig.24]. Chipped Stone: The survey of the mound yielded obsidian points with bifacially removed flakes [Mellaart 1954:fig.94; 1958a:fig.43]. Foliate points made by pressure flaking have been found. One face of one of the points has been worked. Similar finds have been found at the sites of Çukurkent and Ilicapinar. |
Remains: |
Interpretation and Dating: The fact that the biface points that are usually found in the Neolithic sites of the Konya Plain were recovered here; confirms that this area was inhabited at least for a short time period during this period. These regional connections cannot be fully described because of the limitation of publications. This site was not listed among Neolithic sites by Solecki. Similarly; D. French; who analyzed the finds; does not believe they are of Neolithic character. |
