It lies about 103 km south of Van. The wall of the dam was founded on the Arç Brook, which runs from south to north, passing through a narrow rocky strait. It is locally called the Dest Dam. Closing the northern section of the strait, the wall measures about 21 m in lenght and 3 m in width. However, the wall has been destroyed to a great extent by the very fast running Arç Brook. The most interesting feature of this dam is that it was founded on a stream just like the Hirsiz Deresi Dam within the expansion area of the Urartu Kingdom. It is very important as it was the first example of modern dams constructed on big rivers in the Eastern Anatolia region. The large calcerous blocks used for the foundation of the dam's wall were derived from the calcerous rocks in the neighbourhood. The water running from the dam to the north irrigates the Kirmizi Plain. The Arç Dam was constructed during the 8th century BC.
