Palaeolithic chipped stone tools were found in a field at Alibey Mevkii; both sides of the road to Batman; about 1 km north of Oymatas Village; south of Batman Povince. The finding place has an overlooking position to Tigris river basin. Survey conducted by H. Taskiran in 2003 yielded 16 bifacial tools; 25 cores and 9 flakes and blades. General typological characteristics of the finds shows that they belong to the end of Lower Palaeolithic and beginning of Middle Palaeolithic. There are Levallois cores and flakes among the finds. A side scraper made on a Levallois flake is one of the most typical finds [Taskiran et al. 2005:336]. Survey code is S61/46. |
