It is located to the southeast of the Bodrum District of the Mugla Province. The surveys conducted by Bean and Cook in 1950s yielded a fortress enclosed by a rough wall over a 30 m high hill inside the Gulf of Alakilise. There are some other enclosing walls on the slopes. Among the finds are fragments of wine amphora from the 5th century B.C.; Attican crater from the Late 5th century B.C.; potsherds of black glazed ware; the 4th century and the Hellenistic ware and a Cypriot type of terracotta head dating to the Classical Period as well as banded potsherds. No finds from the Roman Period were observed [Bean-Cook 1955:134]. |
