It is situated near the Antalya-Burdur motorway between the villages of Tekkeköy and Kartapinar; 6 km northwest of the Celtikci District; southeast of the Burdur Province. A 1200-1700 m high promontory is divided into two by a 200 m wide strait. The northern section; which is relatively wider than the strait is called the Asar Hill (see Kepez Kalesi). Surveys were conducted under the direction of M. Waelkens on behalf of the Catholic University of Leuven in 1994-95. Traces of a settlement from the Roman Period were identified here. There are two 1.5x1.5 m holes on the floor of a cave; which is reached by steps carved into the bedrock to the south of the hill. On the eastern side of the Asar Hill; potsherds of coarse ware from the Roman Period were unearthed in another cave; which faces the ruins of the Kepez Kalesi and partly in shape at the mid-height of the hill. To the southwest of the cave stands a platform with mortar; carved into the rock. Some of the caves at the summit of the hill have recently collapsed. The caves were probably used for graves; cult area; and etc. On the summit of the Asar Hill; also found is a cistern of 2.7x4.6 m carved into the southern rock. |
