It lies 1 km west-southwest of the village of Alaca; north of the 28th kilometer of Erzurum-Kandilli motorway; on the bank of Karasu. It is 150 m high above the plain level, measuring 67 m in north-south direction, and 84 m in east-west direction. It houses the most significant finds of the region, and the sherds collected from surface are particularly from the Early Bronze Age. With the most beautiful specimens of the Karaz ceramics, the pottery collected from the mound bear decorations consisting of parallel, spiral and intersecting lines. Relief techniques composed of grooves and flutes were employed. As an essential element of the Karaz ceramics, they are all burnished. Although presence of painted ware dating to the first half od the 2nd Millennium BC was informed by S. Güneri, no specimen was found during the recent surveys. Also collected are limited number of Iron Age and Middle Age ceramics. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
