It is located in the Davarli Village on the Erzincan-Sivas motorway, 13 km far from Erzincan. The village became nearer to the motorway after construction of the earthquake houses. The main village is called Yukari Davarli. The mound lies at so called Elmaagaci, 2 km far from Yukari Davarli on the western end of the fertile Erzincan Plain, with an altitude of 200 m above the plain level on the edge of a narrow valley, and it resembles a peninsula enclosed by the Davarli Brook running from the north, and flowing to the east and south of the mound. It has a diameter of 100-150 m. It seems that it suffered a great fire in an uncertain time. It is likely that the western section of the mound was inhabited during the Middle Age. It has a very rich ceramic data. Addition to the ceramics from the Early Bronze Age, obsidian was found atlhough not so abundant. Another factor which makes the mound important is the detection of painted ware from the Late Iron Age. Although the mound is surrounded by rich mineral deposits, it is uncertain if these deposits were in use during these inhabitations. It is listed in the registered archaeological sites inventory prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
