The fortress of Akbulak which is situated 4 km west of the Akçali Village, 29 km southwest of the Tuzluca District in Igdir lies in the north-south direction. To the east is the Akçali Village, and runs the Akbudak Stream, which is the water source of the neighbouring villages. The fortress commands the roads leading to the Akcali, Karacaören and Kayaören Villages in the vicinity. The southern fortifications, which are vulnerable for defence purposes, were erected thicker (2.5 m) as the other three sides of the fortress were surrounded by abyss. The extant part of the southern walls have a maximum height of 3.25 m. The outer surface of the fortifications erected in cylopean technique were dressed, but the interior surface was left as it was. While analysis show that there is a structural similarity with the Early Bronze and Iron Age fortresses, no pottery finds are available.
