Location: It lies to the northern border of the Tozman Plateau facing Yenipazar (Bilecik); 15 km northwest of the Mihalgazi District on the bank of the Sakarya River. The cave located on an upland region (1200-1300 m) deeply breached by the Sakarya River can be reached from the Eskisehir-Saricakaya-Mihalgazi-Cayköy-Inhisar or the Eskisehir-Sögüt-Inhisar-Cayköy-Mihalgazi routes. The road deviating from Cayköy and passing through Tozman reaches to Yenipazar after passing nearby the cave. |
Geography and Environment: The vicinity of the Tozman Sinkhole is composed of the Jura Cretaceous aged Para-autochthonous Units. The cave has a cage form and inclines toward the Yeni Pazar Polje. It was formed on a Northwest-Southeast directed fault line within the contact zone of impermeable methamorphic rocks and Bilecik limestones. It has two interconnected entrances. The strong water flow is characterized by the alcoves and projections inside as well as many descents of -4 and -5 m. It is narrow but the roof is high (8-10m in average). The floor contains many isles or sets of pebbles and sand; and blocks; it is very poor in dripstone decorations. There is a significant amount of water running through the cave which collects the surface waters of a young basin. |
