Explanation: Samples from layer 2B of Can Hasan 1 were recovered from the burned and collapsed west and east parts of the mound. There is only one 14C specimen from layer 2A, and it dates to an earlier period than expected. Layers 4 through 7, which date to the Late Neolithic, are the oldest layers at Can Hasan I and contain no 14C specimens. Chronological analyses made at Cornell University were carried out using two separate samples of wood from layer 2B.
