Location: It is located on the right upper slope of the Büyük Kurudere flowing into the Black Sea; 2 km south of Kiyiköy which lies 29 km northeast of the Saray District of Tekirdag and 31 km of the Vize District. It can be reached from the Saray-Kiyiköy or Vize-Kiyiköy motorways. The road running to Kastro from Kiyiköy passes by the upper part of Büyük Kurudere Creek. The cave which is 25 m high from the base of valley; can be reached by a 15 minute walk through the creek toward sea.
Structural Properties and formation : The vicinity of the Kiyiköy Cave was formed near the contact zone of the Eocene limestones within the Istranca Massif. The cave; which is 25 m above the base of valley is semi-active. Although the cave is mostly dry; the waters leaking from the ceiling and side walls from the middle parts resulted in a small underground creek. Flowing reverse; they form small and shallow lakes at several places.
Research History: It was explored and mapped MTA.
Findings: The most characteristics forms of life are cave butterflies and bats. Red and brown colored butterflies are everywhere in the cave whereas the bats live in small groups near the entrance zone. During the summer surveys nursery colonies of Miniopterus schreibersii, Rhinolophus blasii, and Rhinolophus euryale were recorded in Kıyıköy Cave. The only Myotis emarginatus record in the study was from this cave. Seven invertebrate species were noted, including the first records of the spider, Porrhomma convexum, and a harvestman, Mitostoma gracile.
